I am going to pick up an overdrive this week, probably the Maxon OD since I hear lots of my favorite bands use it to boost tone. Is there a difference? There is definitely a difference in price. Both descriptions mention the "JRC IC chip" so I'm wondering if the circuitry is the same with a different sticker on the front.
This question has been asked countless times, and I think the answer has been that they're all really solid at what they do.
If you spend enough time on it, all of them work. You can also get the TS9 modded to sound better. There is even some crushing tone tests with random pedals and such compared against some of the "flagships"Dual Rec floating around the place. The search function should be able to answer your question. Ibanez pedals are relabeled, licencsed maxon pedals.
If there is any difference its extremely minute and not audible. Loren Littlejohn Lover of all boobage. Isn't the diff between the ts9 and just an op amp chip and 2 resisters? I went to my local guitar center this evening and the guy who worked there didn't know what I was talking about, and thought I was asking for used merchandise. I also said that Killswitch Engage uses the pedal and he said that a band that hard SURELY has something bigger in front of the amp, a little overdrive can't hardly make an amp sound that heavy The is more popular as a boost for metal.
I picked up the TS9 today and I really can feel a difference in the way lead tones sound. It's a little more subtle on chunky riffs but leads sure are creamy!!!Noise level is about the same: minimal. The BBE features true bypass, while the Maxon has a buffered bypass, but from what I can tell the buffered bypass does not seem to add brightness which I've noticed with other buffered bypass pedals.
Overall, I'm satisfied and I would recommend the Maxon to others looking for a tube screamer without a boutique price tag. The Maxon OD Overdrive pedal is a very good tool at a very good price. I bought this pedal in order to tighten up the front end of my Mesa Boogie Mark V, and it did just that.
Given this is only the second "OD" pedal I've ever bought, I find that it does quite a good job at doing what it's supposed to.
The bypass on it is transparent as well, which a good thing. This OD in front of a hi gain amp s perfect, just the right amount of "push" for solos and makes pinch harmonics easier and just gives a creamier playing feel to my amps already great distortion channels.
This overdrive can be described as clean, has nice tone, and is great value for an over dollar overdrive pedal. The sound has lots of mids and sounds controlled. I usually used a boss super overdrive and this one sounds quite similar.2 dvi switch
It just sounds cleaner. It's also less bright. This is good for pushing a distortion pedal or amp into high gain. The midrange has punch and sounds like it has nice quality going for it. I've tried several OD and distortion pedals and this has been my final choice. I'm using it with all channels of triaxis including lead channels for Metal sounds!
Originally released inthe Maxon OD was one of the first tube-amp overdrive simulators to hit the market. Its smooth, creamy crunch tone caught on quickly, and helped to launch a long line of predecessors as well as imitators.
These overdrive effects pedals are excellent for bringing out the tone of your guitar and enhancing your individual style. With this pedal, you can add extra appeal to your performance by creating the right guitar effects for your unique sound.
Originally released inthis classic pedal has become a favorite among many well-known guitarists. In fact, the " tone" is so well known that it is a synonym for perfect overdrive. With a bright chassis in multiple colors, this overdrive pedal has inspired a long line of imitators.
The drive, balance, and tone controls make it easy to adjust and achieve the perfect tone. Today's pedal creates that same great effect that is so well-regarded among guitarists: natural overdrive with a smoothness that recalls a tube amp cranked up to max power.
You can enjoy this sound by using this vintage pedal reissue with any of your electric guitars. This is a great choice for an effects pedal for both beginner and advanced musicians.

What makes this product stand out is that the tube amp compresses the music you play for your exact intonation. The amplifier in the circuit of this pedal contains a diode that distorts the signal of the negative feedback loop, resulting in a mild and smooth distortion.
The tubescreamer creates an exceptional harmony so that you can produce your desired sound every time you play. The OD uses a 9-volt battery for power, or it can be plugged into the wall with an optional AC adapter.
The pedal is made of lightweight cast aluminum, weighing below 1 pound while being strong and durable.Username: Password:. I've been using the tubescreamer for a few months now and its great but I'm noticing tons of guys swearing by the maxon od and I'm just curious why and how they compare?
Juggernauts and 10th anniversaries www. Kiichi Welterweight Posts: From what I know the is less middy mostly. That after all is the defining quality of the tubescreamer. Different versions of both do exist though. I think to recall the also is a bit more agressive.
Personally I also like the more of the two as it is more natural to me. Personally I swear by the Klon e build by our Juansolo, just like many here do. It also is an overdrive, but one without that mid character. It takes the signal, makes it louder, adds treble and gain, all to taste, without touching the rest.
Very tranparent pedal, great sounds and almost all settings are great. It is THE more pedal. Gives you more of all the good stuff. It really has that mojo to me. That sounds pretty awesome.
TS808 = OD808 = TS9?
Do you have a link? Dave Sloven Welterweight Posts: I deliberately went for the OD-9 as I wanted that mid hump. It just depends on what you are after. Not sure if I'd call the more aggressive. If you already have a TS-9 you will find that the OD is different in having less of a hump.
If you have a TS don't bother as it would be very similar. In real terms the 9 is a touch, and i really mean vaguely, more aggressive, the is more open and smooth. There's no real "mid hump" differences between them. My vote is get a Visual Sound Route Log in or Sign up. The Gear Page. Jul 31, 1. Messages: Jul 31, 2. It's like comparing a Toyota to a Honda. Buy both. Jul 31, 4. Messages: 3, The mid frequency and clipping type is different and the SD 1 has a raspier quality that seems better for higher output pickups. The OD is my favorite OD of all time. It sounds better with lower output pickups. It's creamier and warmer sounding.
Lee likes this. Jul 31, 5. I agree with everyone's descriptions. The SD-1's mid-boost is not as pronounced and the clipping is asymmetrical which some perceive as raspy, but this is in a good way. OD is smoother and creamier with more mid-emphasis. LordByron likes this. Aug 1, 6. Aug 1, 7.Wanting to join the rest of our members? Feel free to sign up today. Arch enemy, Carcass tones? I have been experimenting but am not really content with what I have got. Most people here would probably tell you that the od is about as straight forward as any pedal gets. I guarantee that if you invested a couple hours into using the search function you would come out with a handful of presets.
Loren Littlejohn Lover of all boobage. My guess on the is: Volume dimed Gain at 0 Tone to taste. Volume and Tone at halfway 12 o'clockand Gain at around 9 o'clock AudioPhile Mathew Cohen. I'd love to know what settings Machine Head used to record their new album!!! TheStoryteller Member. C'mon guys A general starting point might be 9 o'clock or lower for the gain or overdrive, or whatever it's called control if you don't have a VERY weak signal from your guitar. If you want more highs; add more.
If you have to much; reduce. Just keep in mind that the use of the tone knob above 12 o'clock introduces more hiss to the signal. Your ears will tell you if it sounds good or not This is the one I use, btw: In fact, it sounds just as good as the TS9 I used to have, and it costs next to nothing. But, I don't think I like boosting. I like the inavoidable lo-cut.
Makes the low end tighter. But it's by no means a nessecity. Fredman never used one on any of our Storyteller albums. Guitar straight into or ENGL, that's it. Wadi Member.Best gangster rappers 2018

The Japanese company Maxon has been going a long time, despite it never really being known to us. Meanwhile, word got out that the legendary Tubescreamer TS has long been manufactured by Maxon, and Maxon is now bringing virtually all of its old treasures back onto the market.
Naturally that includes the "mother of all overdrives", the Maxon OD Compared to the later TS-9, it sounds a bit softer and clearer - the "mid-knock" of the later Tubescreamer is less pronounced. For many, it is simply "the" Overdrive. No customer has written a text about this; or they have written a text in a different language.
